MEDIdesign Limited is a medical technology company based in Holywood, Northern Ireland. We design and develop innovative medical devices that work alongside digital tools for assessment, analysis and clinical decision-making.
Our aim is to make high-quality care more accessible as healthcare needs grow and resources come under increasing pressure. We focus on opportunities to bring appropriate aspects of care closer to patients—from hospitals into GP surgeries, pharmacies and community settings—while maintaining access to specialist expertise.
Our approach combines practical device design with clear, intuitive processes and built-in checks. We are also exploring how machine learning can support timely assessment, help clinicians interpret findings and inform appropriate next steps.
Clinical insight. Practical design. Business experience.
The company was founded in 2016 by Sharon Christie, a consultant paediatrician specialising in immunology, infectious diseases and allergy, and Phil Douglas, an award-winning product designer.
The board now includes Patrick Macdonald, an experienced mechanical engineer with a strong background in IT, and Michael Bambrick, an entrepreneur and chartered accountant, Professor Mike Shields, specialising in childhood asthma, and Dr Angus Beck. Michael brings extensive management experience across businesses including General Motors, Capita Group plc and NIE plc, alongside more recent experience in establishing and developing new companies.
Together, the team brings clinical understanding, engineering and design expertise, digital capability and commercial experience to the development of new healthcare technologies.
Our ambition
We see particular opportunities to improve the health (of both children and adults) by making assessment and care more accessible, coordinated and efficient. Our ambition is to develop solutions that improve outcomes while reducing the time and resources needed to deliver effective care.
